Seeds Of Hope Children’s Home
The Seeds Of Hope Children’s Home (Panti Asuhan Benih Harapan) orphanage was established in 2001. Rev Tommy purchased the building with his own money and some assistance from a group of people from Perth Australia. Many of the children came from nearby Hope orphanage which is run by his sister Tris. The orphanage has a very warm feeling and Tommy and his wife Sandra’s love for the children is obvious. The children are very happy and conditions are acceptable.
The orphanage is very happy to receive visitors between 2.00 pm. and 6.00 pm. An appointment is not necessary but we do suggest you call first out of courtesy. Please contact Sandra at least 4 weeks prior to your departure date if you would like to arrange a suitable date and time.
***Children Of Bali support this Orphanage***
We have visited this orphanage may times and will continue to do so. We are also sponsoring 10 children to complete school education at the Seeds Of Hope. This orphanage is genuine and they can be trusted (unlike many other orphanages in Bali) so if you were to volunteer in an orphanage in Bali this is the one you should start with. We stand behind Seeds Of Hope. This is the ONLY orphanage we support in Bali and any other orphanages listed in this website are only for informational purposes.
If you need any help with Seeds Of Hope feel free to contact us.

Hi.
I have visited Bali 4 times. I brought some things for carryforkids the summer of 2006. I am an elementary school teacher and will continue to visit Bali and bring items. My questions:
1. Are there orphanages where lack of electricity is a concern? Meaning either they have none or only have a few hours of electricity per day? Which ones?
2. Are the Balinese using the same QWERTY style English computer keyboard?
3. Can someone please post or email me links to other websites regarding helping Balinese orphanages and schools.
Regards,
Eric
Hi Eric,
1. Are there orphanages where lack of electricity is a concern? Meaning either they have none or only have a few hours of electricity per day? Which ones?
— Hard to know unless you have visited them. I know Seeds Of Hope have electrcity. Power is not great in any of the orphanages. We have a list of all the orphanages that we know of in this website under the FAQ tab at the top of the page.
2. Are the Balinese using the same QWERTY style English computer keyboard?
— Yes they use QWERTY style, I’m guessing they would not mind any region but think the US layout is used the most.
3. Can someone please post or email me links to other websites regarding helping Balinese orphanages and schools.
— List of Orphanages is Bali.
Hi all!
I have been volunteering at ths children’s home for the last two months and highly recommend it. If you are looking for an opportunity to help out the wonderful children of Bali, teach english, play games and make a real difference in this country. I have never been so happy as during this time – the children are angels and if it was possible, I would stay forever!!
I would like to add a little note to anyone considering a visit to Tommy and Sandra. I know how much fun it is to bring toys but most children abandoned or orphaned in Bali are over the age of 9.
Seeds of Hope focusses on education and we need school fees much more than toys. If you don’t feel comfortable bringing cash (although I can guarantee the validity), bring notebooks, pens, stationary – anything to help with education, even bikes to ride to school or money for uniforms.
A lot of people have asked for some tips on what to bring so I thought I’d just put this little note up to let them know.
Thanks – and hope to see you here soon!
x Amy
Amy,
Thank you so much for this post it’s great to hear from volunteers working and helping the kids at Seeds Of Hope. My mother (Harriet) mention she spoke with you while she was out there last month.
I will email you shortly as I was wondering if you might be able to write a short article / experiences while you are there.

(website admin!)
Hi,
I am interested in getting involved by volunteering at an orphanage in Bali for a month or two when I arrive in June or July. What is the best way to get involved? I have sent several emails to different organizations/orphanages but have not heard back including an email to Sandra (sandra_elim@yahoo.com). Please let me know, I look forward to helping out.
Thanks,
Alex
Hi Alex,
I’m the website admin for Children Of Bali and you really need to speak to Harriet who can help you out.
Sandra does not get a chance to look at her emails every day as she is very busy with the kids. Best thing to do is to send us an email via the contact us form at the top of this page and send us a message.
We normally get back to all emails within 2 days.
Martin.
Hi Alex,
If you want you can email me at “amy_rorke [at] hotmail.com”
with questions of what you may expect etc.
I will let Sandra know today that you have contacted her.
Hope to see you here in June!
Amy
Hello there,
My name is christine and I run a child care centre in Brisbane. We will be visiting Bali with friends in September and we are wondering if your orphanage would be interested in our centre fundraising to raise stationary supplies for your children? We would like to teach our children about other cultures and helping others in a meaningfull way. Please let us know your thoughts or if you know of another centre that may need our help more. We have been recommended to your orphanage and would really like to be of help.
Kind regards
Christine Ross
Hi Christine,

Hello there,
I am a student from SJI (International). My group of friends and I are interested in coming to the Seeds of Hope Children’s Home for a few days. Is it possible to give us a contact that we can email to in English so that we can make arrangements?
Thanks
Matthew Tan
Hi, I recently visited the seeds of hope childrens home with my family, after speaking to Harriet I rang Sandra to arrange pick up at our hotel. Sandra’s son came to pick us up with two of the children, when we arrived we were given a concert by the children playing various musical instruments, the children showed us around and were so polite and friendly they were genuinely interested in our life back in Australia. Some of the children spoke very good english. Sandra is very proud of the children. The girls showed me thier rooms and the boys played soccer with my sons, the children were excited to receive the gifts we had brought them , and very greatful. Visiting the home was one of the highlights of our trip to Bali and we will go back and visit again next time.

We visited Seeds of Hope twice during our stay in bali this year. Sandra and Tommy’s love for all 60 of the children is overwhelming. Besides monetary donations, Sandra explained to me that they are in desperate need of toiletries…basic necessities such as shampoo, toothbrushes, toothpaste etc. She was emphatic that these items not be bought in Australia but in Bali where they are alot cheaper and serve the same purpose. Although grateful for clothing donations, Sandra and Tommy both said that they are ‘overloaded’ with clothing at the moment.
Our visits were lifechanging for both myself and my family.

Hi,
I am visiting Bali from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. I will be visiting with a friend who is a website developer and IT guy. We are willing to help out at Seeds of Hope. Also I wish to know if there is anything that you would like us to bring from Malaysia, especially some supplies which are expensive and difficult to source in Indonesia/Bali. I think I do have some baggage allowance to bring them. Pls let me know asap.
best regards,
Pooh Ling
Hi.
I am coming to Bali again this summer for between 4 and 8 weeks. I am a Canadian international elementary school teacher presently in Japan. I would like to have some kind of working or volunteer holiday and have been thinking about helping at an orphanage. I can teach, paint, help with repairs, etc. I also need a cheap place to stay and would like to be located near or in Ubud. Any ideas?

Hi Hannah,
Try writing to Sandra at ***Edited by Admin, Sandra gets too many emails and does not have time to reply or read all of them, please contact us first.*** She would really be happy to see you. I have met her and visited the orphanage last week. There are currently a few volunteers from all over the world there. And they sure need more help there. :)
regards,
Pooh Ling
Re: And they sure need more help there
Pooh Ling, I would be careful to write words such as these.
There are specific things that SoH need, but other things that they don’t – such as clothes or some types of toys/candy. I would discourage people to bring supplies or volunteer until they speak to Sandra directly. People looking to volunteer should visit this site: http://seedsofhope.childrenofbali.org
With the volunteer website up and running, there are many volunteers and we need to make sure that it remains a nicely organised program for both volunteers and the children. Please don’t forget that there are many “Children of bali” that are still forgotten – if you have time, it is worthwhile to seek other organisations (you feel are trustworthy) out as well.
Hannah – this website is for the help of all children in Bali and I strongly suggest that you research hospital placements or birthing centres etc in Bali. I can help you with some information if you would like – my email is amy_rorke @ hotmail.com (*Admin added spaces in email to avoid spam getting to this email address, please remove spaces if you would like to contact this person).
I believe your advanced skills would be more useful in your field. Volunteers at SoH are more likely to be used in baby-sitting role or sometimes teaching English or general repairs. You sound like you are looking for a year of more specific experience and there are many needy, sick children that desperately need attention in the North and East of the island.
Please contact me asap as I know some organisations that would be a wonderful placement for you. You can also contact me in Australia on +61 450 034 385
Kind regards,
Amy
Eric, please contact us via the contact us form so we can offer you some advice and help.
***Re: And they sure need more help there***
Please note, Amy is an experienced volunteer who has been to Seeds Of Hope Orphanage several times in the past. She is a real person and Children Of Bali are in contact with her. Amy can offer advice on most areas of volunteering within Bali and has good insight on Seeds Of Hope Orphanage.
Martin.
Hi Amy,
I did contact Sandra from SOH before I went there and she let me know what are the things needed by SOH. I left my message here and nobody bothers to reply me and let me know what I can bring and help in SOH so I just dropped Sandra an email. Surprisingly, she replied just within 1 hr!!! I do hope the Admin from Children Of Bali can provide a reply to our questions at their fastest and most convenient time.
best regards,
Pooh Ling
